Offshore Grand Prix Races, Point Pleasant Beach

Offshore Grand Prix Races, Point Pleasant Beach

Sunday, 6/16 - Grand Prix Boat Races

Race #1 Starts at 12 pm

Race #2 Starts at 2 pm

Happy Father's Day! Come out with the family & watch the Offshore Grand Prix races. The races started off as the Indy 500 of Offshore Racing during the 1970s. The New Jersey Offshore Powerboat Racing Association has been the host of the club since racing started in Point Pleasant Beach 40+ years ago. NJ Offshore is a very active club with over 100 members and has kept the tradition alive on the Jersey Shore.

During the years, the names have changed, and the race course has gotten smaller and shorter. Back when the races started, the course was over 200 miles long from NY’s Fire Island to Seaside Heights, NJ. One lap was about 80 miles in length. Many spectators, and there were many, would only see a boat pass by once an hour and only see 3-4 boats along the course. Today, the racecourse is a small 4-mile oval as close to the beach as possible. Since the beach drops off quickly, the boats will run about 150 feet from the surf. Even the outside leg of the race can be seen from the shoreline. It is quite the show – come out with your beach chairs and blankets and enjoy the race!
