Walk through Mallard Park this week and you would not know a five-day carnival stood there this past Saturday. The rides are gone, the beer garden tent is folded, and the only trace of the Manasquan Fireman's Fair is a faint outline in the grass where the Ferris wheel sat. Most visitors assume this is the moment Manasquan exhales for the season, that the town's calendar empties out until Labor Day.
It does not. If anything, the weeks after the fair are when Manasquan's summer calendar continues, and this year that stretch lines up with more going on than usual: a new restaurant building a following during its first summer, a concert series at the Algonquin Arts Theatre running through spring 2027, and an author series adding another event to the town's calendar.
A Fair Older Than Most Of The Houses Around It
The Manasquan Fireman's Fair traces back to 1974, when the Volunteer Engine Company #2 first set it up at Fourth Avenue and Main Street. This year's run went July 28 through August 1 at Mallard Park, five nights of Skelly's Amusements rides, festival food, a beer garden, and the fair's signature $25,000 Super 50/50 raffle that still functions as the year's largest fundraiser for the company. Admission was free, rides ran on a $2-per-ticket or $30 wristband structure, and the whole thing wrapped with Big Sea Day on August 1, the 10th Annual BeachSmash Wiffleball Tournament alongside a sandcastle contest, a surf tournament, and a fishing contest.
The fair closes on a Saturday, but Manasquan's summer calendar continues. Here is what comes next.
Main Street Didn't Wait For The Fair To End
The biggest change on Main Street this year opened in May, before the fair, giving it time to establish itself during its first summer. Coastal Canteen opened Wednesday, May 20 at 142 Main Street, the address left vacant after Max Devros closed in 2024. It is the third concept from Jersey Shore Restaurant Group, the team behind Harpoon Willy's in Wall Township and Robbinsville and Half Moon Point in Point Pleasant, and it handed the kitchen to Chef Andre Barbero, who started bussing tables at Harpoon Willy's at 15 and worked his way up through the group's other openings.
The build-out itself tells you something about how the group is reading Manasquan's foot traffic. The space now runs a 25-foot circular bar on the first floor, an event space upstairs, and a rooftop patio with windows that fully open for indoor-outdoor dining in summer. A few specifics worth knowing if you haven't been in yet:
- Happy hour runs Monday through Friday, 4 to 6 p.m., with 25% off appetizers, $7 Aperol Spritzes, $7 Tito's, $5 house wines, and half off draft beer
- The menu runs from a Coastal Canteen burger with mushroom jam and aged cheddar to seared scallops and a raw bar, with clams, fluke, and lobster sourced from Atlantic Offshore Fishery in Point Pleasant
- Live music is booked on a monthly rotating lineup
A few doors down, Blend on Main at 152 Main Street has been running its own quieter routine under Chef Lou Smith, open Tuesday through Sunday for breakfast and brunch from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 9:30 p.m., closed Mondays. Between the two, Main Street now has an all-day rhythm that did not exist a year ago, one that reflects the two kitchens' schedules.

None of these compete with each other or with the fair. That spacing is the point. The fair's five nights close out July and spill one day into August, and everything else on this list gets the rest of the month to itself.
The Algonquin's Concert Series Runs Through Spring 2027
The Algonquin Arts Theatre's concert series is a notable addition to the calendar this year. The nonprofit theatre at 60 Abe Voorhees Drive announced a lineup running from summer 2026 through spring 2027, mixing tribute acts, yacht rock sets, and a New Year's Eve show built around Led Zeppelin's catalog. The August entry, a Jersey Beach Boys show blending Beach Boys harmonies with a Four Seasons-style stage presence, lands Sunday, August 30 at 3 p.m.

BookTowne Adds Author Events To The Calendar
BookTowne is bringing author Karin Slaughter to the Algonquin Arts Theatre on Monday, August 10 at 6 p.m. to discuss her latest release, with Jodi Picoult following in September. The events add author visits to Manasquan's calendar.
